What Car LogoThis year’s annual WhatCar? magazine awards saw the 37th anniversary of the ceremony the exciting Car Of The Year Awards 2014!

But the question on everyone’s minds is; who claimed the most sought after award of Motor of the Year for 2014…?

Car of the Year Awards 2014

Nissan Qashqai as its 2014Held at London’s prestigious Grosvenor House venue, WhatCar? handed out an impressive array of awards to motors launched over the past 12 months, for various disciplines including Best Family Car that went to the Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSI SE, Best Executive Car that was picked up by the Audi A3 Saloon 2.0 TDi Sport, and Best Green Car claimed by the BMW i3 to name just a few. However, it was an extremely proud and well deserving Nissan team that was awarded the overall Car of the Year award for their Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi Acenta 2WD model.

This new vehicle is packed full with the latest technology and high-spec features. It sports a 360 degree parking camera that shows a clear bird’s eye view of the vehicle’s positioning, with a supporting Intelligent Park Assist that practically parks the car for you, steering it into a parallel parking space. The Qashqai really does showcase the top notch features that you would expect from a top notch car, living up to its Car of the Year title.

Nissan Qashqai as its 2014 | Caversham Vehicle HireManaging Director of Nissan Motors GB claims “we’re thrilled that WhatCar? has named the new Qashqai as its 2014 car of the year. A huge amount of effort has gone into the design and engineering of the new car, and we’re all extremely excited about creating the template for the second-generation crossover.”

Judges of the competition revealed it was the workmanship and unity presented by the 6,100 strong Nissan workforce at Sunderland’s Tyne and Wear factory that helped sway their decision of who to hand the award to.

Editor-in-Chief of WhatCar?, Chris Hallet, reveals, “The all-new Nissan Qashqai brings excellence and polish to a class of cars that was already brimming with talent and tempting buys. The Qashqai delivers low costs and first-class levels of comfort, refinement, space and safety. The Nissan team at the Sunderland plant should be justifiably proud of their achievement.”

Best Family Car 2014

It’s sturdy, it’s sizeable, it’s fairly priced and it sports all the qualities you’d want and need from a family hatchback. Linked to Volkswagen’s Golf, its 1.2 litre TSI turbocharged engine – although seemingly small for the size of the car – poses no reason for concern as it encompasses performance and economy, offering a smooth delivery and torque and making for a comfortable ride for all.
